Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Is it even worth it?

So that's why I don't have a house!
You need to read Daniel Quinn's "Ishmael" series and then decide.
(My answer is that its not, but that's how our civilization works--but it doesn't have to be this way.)
That's very true, Jazz!
(And off post, I saw your comment about being in Melbourne last year. You were here - and you DIDN"T tell me? !!!!!!)
This sounds sort of jokey--it being Ellen Goodman and Jazz and all--but I think there's a really important question there.
It tempts one to just opt out, eh?
No kidding. That's why I don't work.
Since I missed your last post, I wanted to add my two cents on the bra issue. I can never find my size but since I knew the little sizing trick, I tried that and it works. For instance if you are looking for a 34A, try a 32B. I was sized at 36DD but a 38D fits pretty much the same. And speaking of padding, do you know how ridiculous it is to pick up a 36DD bra and it's padded? WTF? Why would a 36DD need padding? And good luck. I need some too but have been putting it off myself.
Ticknart - you are well off indeed.
Rachel - I'll look into those books. Thanks.
David - Last April I had no idea you existed. Next time I pop in, I promise I'll let you know.
Joce - One is indeed tempted to opt out.
Geewits - I'll try that bra thing. Maybe the problem will be solved!
there is something worth considering in that "joke."
Yet, what is the alternative?
No, it's not. That's what I keep saying. Why am I paying almost half my salary for a home when I'm barely ever in it?
Not really, but maybe there is an answer between being enslaved to stuff and opting out? I'm making a serious effort to be careful about what I think I need so that I will have the freedom not to work all the time.
