Another of those things I love...

.

This weekend marked the end of this year's edition of 1001 Pots. It's an annual exhibit/sale of potters' work - the biggest in North America featuring 124 artists this summer. It's held every year from mid-July to mid-August. Outdoors, because rain won't hurt the art, and damned if it didn't pour this year.

There's all manner of stuff - cups and plates:

Kitchenware:

Bowls and more bowls:

Cool, funny and not so useful stuff:

Amazingly intricate stuff:

And stuff to hang on your walls:

This year's new thing: the silica garden, where shards of broken pottery go to live another life. Eventually all the cages will be filled with broken pieces. It's quite cool looking.

Only problem is, it's over for the year, which, however makes my wallet that much happier and heavier...

Hanging the green, plant like thing on my wall would be enough to induce nightmares. I'm sorry but it looks like something out of H.P. Lovecraft, Cthulhu in pottery. ;o)

I love it all, especially the idea of filling those cages with broken pottery. Some of those pieces look worth rescuing.

Great pictures! That's the stuff I'd like to walk around and look at, but I would never buy anything. But then, I'm at a phase in my life that if I can't wear, eat or drink it, I don't want it. However, if you need any art in your house you should think about framing some of these prints. They are really good pictures.

BB - Hell, I wouldn't hang it in my living room either. It reminds me of the Flying Spaghetti Monster it's younger sibling perhaps...

Gaelyn - it's going to look great when it's finished. And they ask anyone who has old pottery to get rid of to bring it to the cage.

Geewits - We've bought quite a bit of stuff over the past three or so years. All of it is useful and all of it is being used - all kitchen stuff. The only "useless" thing I bought there is a necklace that I absolutely love... But there are a lot of knick knacks if that's what you're into.

I love the bowl you got me (I think it was from there right?) for my birthday. I love that kind of stuff and should make a point to visit it one year. Love the pics!

Great stuff! I'm thinking of taking a pottery class sometime in the future. :)

That's tremendously cool! I wish we had something like that in our neck of the woods. I especially like the dog in the Canadiens sweater.

@Suldog: that dog rocks!

I want! I love all of that stuff, and that fence at the end is just too cool! If I tried that, it would just look like...a bunch of broken glass. Still, maybe I'll get Clint to surround the property...

This is the most biggest awesomest thing ever (trying to annoy you with adjectives, for no good reason). But it's sooo cool, and I'm properly envious.

I was thinking, too, that I'd have to work this show into my yearly budget. That would entail me making a budget, of course, but still.

Love the shards/silica thing the most, perhaps.

RG - Yep that's where the bowl is from, and you do have to come one year. I mean c'mon it lasts a whole month! You have no excuse. ;-)

Hannah - After 1001 pots I always feel like taking pottery classes for a month or so.

Suldog - You would like that one! I guess you'll have to come up to Quebec next summer...

Mr. Jazz - Ah, boys and their hockey...

Gnightgirl - Some of those things would look great in your new house ;-)

Jocelyn - Maybe you an work it into next year's budget... There's plenty of wine here too! (wink wink, nudge nudge)

If money were no object, I owuld have all mixed potery for dinnerware. As it is, I content myself with a few serving dishes and mugs.

That looks so cool.

Thanks for a peek. :) We used to head up there every few years; I miss that. Is that ceramic girl on the swing still outside the gallery?
