Overheard

"I had to change my car. I was four years old and it was starting to look pretty dated. "

Talk about conspicuous consumption. The mind boggles.

And speaking of cars and consumption, yesterday I saw a Hummer3 parked in front of the office. They're shrinking. This thing is only about the size of a really big SUV. I can't wait for the Hummer 6. It'll be the size of a SmartCar, except it'll still be butt ugly, cost a fortune and guzzle gas like there's no tomorrow.

Oh, and in case you haven't seen this, it's absolutely fascinating: Play displays photos uploaded to Blogger's public blogs in real time. I picked this up in a blog last week.

I can't imagine ditching a car that was only 4 years old.

... and I'll still spit on them.

That slide show gives the word "random" a whole new... well, I was going to say depth, but it's more like sideways.

I am ducking my head as I admit that I usually only keep a car for three yrs. before moving on. I get bored easily, though, and that Mini Cooper is calling my name. I have vowed that I am keeping the Saab until the Little Slacker is old enough to drive it, which is in the much too near future. So that will beat my three yrs. limit.

Thanks for sharing that blogger pic thingy. Very cool!

So these are pics that are currently being uploaded to blogger blogs? I shouldn't try to think in the mornings beyond delivering the MOW food!

And I consider myself lucky if the car I'm driving is less than 20 years old.

At age four my car hadn't even entered vehicular puberty yet. Now, at 15 it's in full-blown adolescence.

Confession time. I spent too many years as a single Mom driving unreliable beaters. I never knew when they would break down at the worst possible moment. Usually when I was broke. So about ten years ago I decided I never wanted to worry about a car breaking down and not being able to afford the repair again. I now keep a car as long as the warranty and roadside assistance is valid, usually 3 or 4 years, then trade it in for a new one. Oh the shame. But hey, someone drives my old cars, just not me.

I once bought a 1987 Dodger Shadow in 1987. I sold it seventeen years later when I bought my current 2003 Sunfire which I have had since 2003. Hmmm... an idea for a Post! Thanks! I will be sure to give you credit! :-) I got rid of it when I was 40+ years old though. I can't remember what car I had when I was 4 however! ;-) Just giving you a hard time! LOL

I had been eyeing that "Play" feature but just used it, thanks to you. What an interesting cross-section of pix, reflecting back what an interesting cross-section of people use Blogger. I mostly saw a bunch of photos of a girl's ass, btw.

New car every four years? The shame. My cars average 10-15 years old.

Evil Spock's car is 7 years old, and Evil Spock would like to trade in the Celica for a Prius some day in the future. . .

Pretty dated after 4 years?? I had no idea that cars go out of style so quickly. I have underwear older than that.

Ugh. I hate Hummers. They're ugly. They're annoying. Even if they are smaller these days.
