Hope Springs Eternal

I got myself a datebook/planner/agenda/whatever you call them at the end of last year. You know, to better keep track of appointments, things to do and all that stuff.

I do this every year, but in my defence, I didn't buy it this year, it was offered as a sample by one of those promotional companies so the company name could be printed on it, and it could be sent out to our clients who would promptly throw it away, thus adding to planetary pollution.

I kept it. Because, as mentioned in the title, hope springs eternal. This was going to be the year of the planner. The year everything was neatly jotted down in my book. (Can you jot neatly or is that a contradiction?)

Well.

I should know better actually. I've never managed to do it before, why would that change at the ripe old age of 46?

I've never been good at keeping those things. I tried a paper book, an electronic agenda (damn, I hate those they're just too damn organized) and I can never get past the first month.

Now, it's January 15, 2008. I'm already entering things "posthumously" in the book. It's pathetic.

I don't know whether I should be thrilled to not really need the book to keep track of what I have to do, or devastated that I have so little of a life that organizational tools are not required...

That's not pathetic at all. Keep it up. You beat yourself up almost as much as I do. We should date.

Well lil sister it must run in the family, I'll usually note things down in my agenda, then get to look at said agenda" My electronic one is not as bad since I can put an alarm on the occasion and the thing starts beeping so I've no choice but to look. ;o)

well its better than being SO busy that you don't have the time to pencil in your own events!

I know someone who is so socially active, she doesn't have, and never really ever had, a close relationship with anyone, much less had a significant other...

its sad really--but she is so busy, she doesn't have the time to feel lonely (which is partly why she keeps overbooking herself--truly sad.)

We have a calendar in the kitchen to write appointments on. For birthdays and things, I use goofy calendar stickers, because at the ripe old age of 46, I have yet to grow up! (But you knew that.)

I think it sounds very freeing not to need one--I think it is a good thing.

I have an un used one of those as well. Whenever I am trying to get out of a conversation with a co worker, I start flipping through it searching for 'that' page, that I never find. They usually end up leaving by the 30 second mark.

Don't think of it as a daytimer. Think of it as a 'get out of jail free' card at work :-)

Thrilled. Serenely and gratefully thrilled.

Furiousball - now there's a scary thought...

BB - Yep, none of us have lives!

Rachel - I hate busy

Geewits - I think growing up is highly overrated. I tend to avoid it as much as possible.

Susan - Yeah, actually... now I can throw out the agenda

That Girl - Bwwwahahahaahaha

Joe - I'm leaning in that direction.

I have a datebook, but I have to in order to keep track of patients. I also keep personal appointments and the like in it/ But if I didn't have to use it for patients, I'd probably just have a calendar somewhere.
