Though I hate ...

.
... to admit any good thing about winter, sometimes some things are... well... pretty.

There you go, all you winter lovers! I've said it! Savour it because it won't happen often.

I'm afraid I'll never live this down.

(It was snowing, thus the white spots. I should've gone out into the frigid cold of the previous day when it was sunny. I'll try again. Sometime. Maybe.)

It sure is beautiful. I used to love icicles as a kid, they looked so otherwordly. Those are simply gorgeous.

Now I know that winter is getting to you... where were the pictures taken.... at the chalet I presume?

Guillaume - these ones are great, there's almost a cavern between them and the rocks.

BB - Yes. It is. Yeah, they were taken at the cottage, you know how the street dead ends right after our place? Right there. Oh, and Mr. Kick Ass Cross Country Skier - when are you going to come try out our trails?

I've always found ice-covered rocks breathtaking. Doesn't mean winter doesn't suck balls.

Cuz it does. Big sweaty muddy balls.

I hate the cold, but I have to admit that it makes some pretty pictures. Very lovely.

Yay for you getting into the lovliness of winter. Those icicles look mean!

"All the sweet white icing, melting down..." Nice shots. Very faerie.

When I lived in NY, one winter I happened upon a rather rococo 10 story building downtown that had been the scene of a recent fire. It was covered in icicles from top to bottom, like a giant cake. Awesome sight.

Fine photos despite the winterish aspect of them.

Yes, quite beautiful and freaking cold.

Ugh - I hate those things -- the photos are gorgeous and they seem to be out in the wild here and everything, but when I see them on people's houses I can imagine what their spring is going to be like.

Rachel - Damn I love you girl! Were we separated at birth?

Suldog - the only good thing about it is the pretty pictures.

VS - Yeah, like they're just waiting for you to stand under them to break off and kill you. Lets just say I got into the loveliness of the icicles and that's about it.

Jeaux - That building must've looked amazing. I would've loved to see that.

Ian - I'm just waiting and hoping for the green.

COTW - Yeah, freaking cold about covers it.

XUP - Not quite the wild. The non wild was conveniently left out.

Raino - good to know I'm not alone in my loathing.

that really is gorgeous

Down here, in sunny South Africa, we NEVER get snow. We NEVER get icicles. We do get GOOD TANS and LOADS OF BEACH TIME.

I hope my caps added value... XD

Jazz said...

Lime - gorgeous maybe, but not enough to make up for the rest of it.

CPJ - I'm thinking I just might have to start hating you. ;-p

choochoo said...

you could prolly kill someone with one of those..

Jazz said...

choochoo - and the evidence would melt. Perfect!

So - nobody's watched CSI lately? Some dude made a bullet of frozen, ground beef. It thawed and the ME couldn't even tell the difference...

Jazz said...

CPJ - never really watched that show. But wouldn't the ground beef show up??? yeah, I guess it would end up looking like ground human. Or something. It's a brilliant idea though.

choochoo said...

mythbusters tried the ice bullet thing. Didn't work. Ice can't work up enough velocity to kill someone. So there:P

Nerd-power! hehe.

@choochoo: pfffft! CSI's aren't bound my the simple laws of physics. Neither are the people they pursue.

Jazz said...

CPJ - um... so CSIs and their those they pursu are... what? superheros?

Voila -- there is an award for you at my blog

Nice photos, Jazz, but they do make me cold just looking at them. And would you believe it's f**king snowing in Vancouver AGAIN today?!?

Ice, ice, baby.

Nice pics. Was that by the cabin? Oh yeah, I just saw your answer to BB.

I'm so like you - hate the cold, grey, early dark evenings...but love the magic of beautiful fresh snow and ice formations..:)

Jocelyn said...

In defense of your winter hatred, let's point out that the ice is kind of witchy and threatening, so you still are kind of tough about the whole thing.

Jazz said...

Ian - It's been picked up and blogged about. Thank you for the easy post today!

Pinklea - better you than me. It actually went up to... well not much but over freezing today.

Geewits - yeppers

HTE - Ice is nice. Especially in a margarita.

Joce - I luuuuurve you.

Can't beat a few great icicles. Usually get out here to take few photos of them when it freezes, as we've a few waterfalls nearby.

Jill said...

Oh my god, that's gorgeous. Water does the most amazing things when it turns solid.

Amazing photos of such a beautiful natural phenomenon.
