21st Century Sin

If the Vatican hasn't been in the news much lately, it's because they've been brainstorming out there in Italy. They thunk and thunk and added new sins to the already interminable list of proscribed behaviours.

'Cause this is the 21st century dude and we're just becoming eviler and eviler...

So, whereas before taking or trafficking drugs would land you in prison, now it lands you in hell too! Kill two birds with one stone so to speak. Drug traffickers will think twice now before selling drugs as it makes going to hell just that much easier when some other asshole shoots 'em in the head. Ya think?

Pollution is now as sin(be careful of your garbage people, it could land you in the brimstone fires of hell), as are social and economic injustice and genetic manipulation.

Because last week social and economic injustice was just fine and dandy??

Much as I despise catholicism (and organized religion in general), I have to love the Vatican for making me laugh this morning. And handing me a post on a silver platter. Because the "weekend at the cottage picture post"? I have the pictures, they're on one of those little thingys you plug into your computer but this computer says, "Nope, I've decided its boy bits are incompatible with my girl bits."

So no go. I'm such a techno-idjit. Le sigh.

If only they'd make blindly following Uncle Fester a sin.

'Course then no one could listen to the Pope.

"Now go forth, and pollute no more!"

Those Vatican people are funny.

Ahhh those Italians... I betcha they poured over tons of reports to find out the PERFECT sins to add to the list...

Sorry to hear about your bits :) I'm sure you will figure it out soon.

You know, I'd love it if more people considered it unkind to pollute, but a sin? And some of the things on the list are absurd. But then again, I don't believe in hell, so it's not a de-motivater for me.

this is what gets me about catholicism, and similar belief systems: they have whole tomes full of "thou shalt nots" but if you "REPENT" and "Believe inJesus!" then that's okay, because it'll all be forgiven...

so, the mandate to behave is dismissed, of course. I mean, the psychological phenomenon is proven in households with small children everywhere: if you can't carry out your threats, then little johnny is gonna do what he wants anyway. "no Johnny, you can't have that cookie. if you eat that cookie I will spank you. Johnny you ate that cookie!!! Bad!!! Oh but you're so cute with those sad eyes, okay, its okay, I'm sorry I yelled....I still love you, but next time, listen when I say you can't have the cookies, okay?"

No need to worry - all you have to do is say 3 Hail Marys and 1 Our Father and you will be absolved of everything.

I remember years ago reading that either the French or Italians wanted "gluttony" taken off of the list because of their cultural love of food. I guess the Fat Americans are the reason that one has to stay on. I think I like drug trafficking as a major sin. Those people are reprehensible. Good thing I'm not Catholic, none of it applies to me anyway.

But if you're Catholic all you have to do is confess your sins, say 12 Hail Marys or something and you're forgiven. Piece of cake.

Ticknart - no one listens to the pope anyway!

Tai - Yeah, really.

HD - the techie looked at my bits. It's not me it,s the computer.

Citizen - We're on the same page here.

Rachel - well what's the point of organized religion if you can't get off the hook? I mean, seriously, how many people would stay with it if they knew they were condemned to hell with no possibility of parole?

Susan - Could be a problem for me. I don't remember them... Some would say I have lapsed way to far.

Geewits - Yeah, trafficking is reprehensible, but somehow I don't see these people as being afraid of sinning...

Dumdad - Yeah, like I said to Rachel.
