Sunday at the cottage

.
Sometimes something great happens. For no reason at all. For instance, you walk by the patio door and there, sitting in a tree, not 15 feet from you is a barred owl. Nothing like Ian's Great Horned Owl, but nevertheless stunning. And there he sat, posing. Such a beautiful creature.

Look at his eyes, Barred owls are, apparently the only brown-eyed owls. He let me take several pictures before turning around and soaring away. I've seen plenty of cool birds at the cottage, but this is a first...

And then, on the way home we stopped at the spa. They have a thing for buddhas at this spa, and I thought they looked pretty cool in the snow.

And the mysterious disappearing meme is back.  But that's for another day.

Love the owl. It's one type of bird I hardly ever get to see.
And I love the last Buddha all set for t nice feed of snow.

Jazz! What fabulous shots. Interesting how they are both (the owl and the buddha - sounds like a book title!) in sepia tones.

It's kind of counter-intuitive to see a buddha surrounded by snow - great, great shot!

Owls are wonderful creatures, a bit spooky. Barred owls have a haunting two-phrase call which one ornithologist rendered as "Who cooks for you... who cooks for you-all!"

Nice photos.

How cool! I'm jealous and want to happen upon an owl. My neighbor saw one on a walk. Maybe that means I should go walking?
Cool Buddha pics, too!

I'm sure seeing owls brings one good luck. So getting great photos of one must be extremely fortuitous.
Giving Buddha snow instead of food may negate that, though.

word verification is inghtful at first I read it as insightful...

Hmm I also have 'odd' things in my garden - although we never see snow.

Timely reminder to hang my camera on the door handle so I can be quicker on the draw.

Owls are good omens. Which is maybe why you got to stop at the spa on the way home. I'm asuming you actually wnet in and had something lovely and relaxing done?

I wish I could see an owl that close and take a few pictures of it. I love owls.

I always love to see any raptor in the wild. Beautiful owl. And I can't help but notice similar expressions of serenity on the owl and the Buddha.

A wonderful owl, and a fine Buddha, too.

These two things are so alike, colorwise, that they seem ripe for comparison. Here's my start: the owl has, um, his eyes open.

There ya go.
