I was born to be a kept woman...

... but unfortunately, here I sit at 5:30 on a Wednesday evening, still at work; I will be for the next foreseeable hours. No, I'm exaggerating, for the next hour or two, until this part of the report I'm working on is printed out. It's been a hellishly busy week so far. I've been working since 7:30 this morning and ate lunch at my desk, so I'm pretty much fed up by now.

Now, before anyone comments that I should leave this horrible place, let me add - for want of a better word - a disclaimer - I have the right word on the tip of my tongue(fingers?), but it won't come out; anyone have the right word? . Ian? You're a writer, you must know the word I'm looking for... I'm babbling aren't I? Or at the very least digressing - again. Blame overwork.

So.... If it seems that every time I talk about my job it's to complain, you're absolutely right. If a job is perfectly wonderful, what is there to say? So, yeah, I complain when I talk about my job.

This being said, I don't hate my job. Not by a long shot. It's not always hellish, far from it. Actually I quite like it most of the time, after all I wouldn't have stuck around 14 years otherwise, I'm not that much of a masochist. Actually I'm not any much of a masochist (and if that made no sense, I plead exhaustion). It's just that I have a tendancy to get frazzled under pressure (and when I'm PMSing) and hate everything about my work. Well, mostly some people. Temporarily. There are days like that. Waddaya gonna do?

Can anyone honestly say they love all aspects of their jobs all the time? Hmmmmm? Didn't think so.

This being said, if a long lost uncle died and left me his monumental fortune, I'd be out of here in a minute. But I'm sure most people can say that about their jobs.

It's the nature of the beast.

I'm one of those people who is easy enough to content. I have a job that pays very well for what it is, I usually leave it here at the end of the day, I have a roof in town and a cottage (with a dying septic system, but a cottage nevertheless), good friends, Mr. Jazz makes me happy. What else can I ask for?

I suppose I could ask for the perfect job too, but, being a pragmatist, I'm not really sure that even exists. And if it did exist, I'm sure most people would eventually find fault, or think that it's better somewhere else. As Big Brother says, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence because of all the shit that's spread over it". BB is quite the pragmatist too.
I'm not quite sure where I was going with this... um...

I guess that my job is ok all in all and that i'm fine with there being days when I loathe it. 'Cause it gives me something to blog about, dontcha know...

PS: How funny is it that when I googled images for "busy at work" up popped two illustrations by one of my favourite bloggers, Paula. I love serendipity...

Actually, if I win a lot of money, I am not sure I would leave my job in a second... I love my job! Don't get me wrong, I have hard days and I don't love it all the time! But leaving it completely... I am sure I would be able. But then again, maybe it's because I am in my late 20s. But, I would certainly have more entertaining vacations! :-)

Lottery. Money. Leave my job?
Does that question EVER need to be posed?

Mind, I don't half mind the job I have at the moment.
I file.
I have filed.
I will file.

Good luck with your report!

Wow, 14 years. That really impresses me. I think my longest "tenure" was one year and 9 months. I'm an escape artist!

This also will pass. Hang in there lil sister I'm sure you'll survive. Thanks for the plug by the way. I'll never be as famous as you but still. ;o)

I find that if I start doing the Kids in the Hall "I'm smashing your head" bit my job becomes a little more entertaining.

I loved this positive post ... but it almost made me kind of like my job a bit. Hmmmm ... maybe I should take my temperature? :)

Jazz, it's Friday. I hereby grant you two days off. It sounds as if you've earned it.

I think a job we love/hate is sometimes a bit like a marriage. There is the good stuff, and then there is not good stuff. But, there is a process we used with clients in the rehab biz, and that was a thing called 'readiness to change.' If the bad stuff with booze, say, is outweighing the good stuff, then it is time to give it up. If the bad stuff in your job outweighs the good stuff, then get your pretty bum out of there. But if, as you indicate, there are virtues in the job, then definitely stay. Same as in a marriage.
Meanwhile, enjoy your weekend.

I do the same thing. Who wants to hear about how great my job is when it's great? It's whining and complaining that everyone wants to hear. :)

My job is great and I love it. But what usually "gets to me" is the work environment, a.k.a colleagues. A select few are able to turn an OK day in a "Thank God it's finally 16h30!" kind of day just by being, well, being themselves I guess. Oboxiousness must have been on sale at Wal-Mart recently because some of the co-workers I'm blessed with are quite good at it and have plenty to spare. Nevertheless, the job itself, I love it and I would not change or quit for anything (except if Jazz's long lost uncle bestows a few Millions upon her...). But I sure wish some of the idiots I work with would quit! Enuf said, it's Freitag and we're off to the cottage in 3 hours and 36 minutes. Have a great weekend everyone.

PS: That should have read OBNOXIOUSNESS or OBNOXIOUSITIZATION.

Bottom line: they're annoying as hell!

Great post, Mrs. Jazz! I often here my mister come home with complaints akin to your's (and Mr. Jazz's)--"This job would be wonderful but for the idots I work with!" I'm sure if we won the lottery, mister would quit his job, but me? Of course not. But I would surely get myself a studio that's bigger than the bread box I'm working in now. Oh...And perhaps get a house on the lake with a westward view so I can do sunsets to my heart's content. : )

I, too, googled "busy at work" to see what came up. I only saw my one piece (and can't remember what it was. Good going, brain). You were welcome to "steal" it to use for your little spot if you wanted to. : D

BBD - It's great that you love your job. And here's to great vacations.

Tai - Yeah, why would the question be posed, really?

Geewits - Yep, 14. So I figure I'm entitled to hate the job some days.

BB - of course i'll survive. I always do don't i? Here's to Mom and Dad raising us to be down to earth and prosaic.

Tick - I'll have to try that!

Dan - you like your job. You like sending cellphone hell onto the rest of us. Admit it; you're evil.

Josie - Thank you thank you thank you.

Ian - After 14 years, the positive does still far outweigh the negative. What more can I ask for? Besides, I so wouldn't be here otherwise.

Jill - Bingo. It always helps to have something to whine about. You know, that easy post...

Mr. Jazz - 10 more minutes and we're free of them all...

Paula - if I had your job and talent I wouldn't quit either!
