Of baby pics and class

.
Brangelina have sold pics of their twins for $11 million

Jessica Alba has sold pics of her kid for $1.5 million (she's obviously just minor royalty).

I can't help but find it distasteful to sell pictures of your kids to the tabloids. The whole making tons of money off them thing... ewww.

Of course I know that yes, the tabloids will find a way to get pictures anyway, so it makes some twisted sense to just go ahead and control what they get.

That the whole celebrity "market" has come to this shows just how fucked up society is. I know celebrities expose themselves to this type of thing by virtue of being celebrities, but it seems to me that when it gets to the point that even their children are exposed to this, there is something deeply wrong.

Thoughts anyone?

I see no problems with it. LOL. People have been making money off their children for millenia. Hell, If it were me, that money be going to their education funds, or maybe just the diaper funds...hell those poop machines should be working for SOMETHING.

well, they know it will sell and I heard they will use the money for charity. So yeah, not a lot of class but then again, that industry never had much class to begin with anyway.

Well I think it's a good idea. They are cutting out the middleman (the papparazzi) and that seems like a good thing.

I think it's disgusting exploitation, but consider the source.

On a cheerier note, I have an award for you, so please check my blog.

Nicole Kidman has refused all offers of tons of cash for pics of her baby. She says, IF they decide to allow photos, they'll give them for free!!

Yes, it's disgusting to take money for pictures of your children like this. Almost like you get pregnant/adopt foreign kids just as a publicity stunt/extra cash

Kinda a tough one cuz these people exist in a world I absolutely can't relate to. I have not idea what it's like to be known globally, to be stalked everywhere I go, to have people wanting to know the intimate details of my life and my every goings on. I think the moral code is a bit different in that world, and there, maybe, selling photos of your babies for 11 mil and donating it to charity is a higher standard. But I DO know, that I have little interest in these things, though it's forced upon me whenever I try to get REAL news (yeah...Like who the Bachelorette picked! Hee!)

Dude, I'd sell a picture of my boy for $11. Just $11. No million. I mean if someone wants to give me a million, I'd be thrilled to take it. But until then, I'll just take the eleven bucks.

What's interesting is that the $11 million being paid by the mag in question won't be recouped in sales or advertising. It's a clear-eyed choice to take a loss, just for the status of being the publication to cop these sought-after pictures.

In the case of celebs who donate the money, I can live with it. If it's all going to happen anyways, why not feed a bunch of kids or build a village with the proceeds?

Hmmm. Interesting take on things. I see I'm definitely in the minority here.

XUP, you make an interesting point about the whole adoption thing too. The last one Madonna (was it Madonna?) adopted for instance. The kid was obviously not even an orphan, since his (her?) father was in the picture at one point.

Though I don't imagine he got $11M for his kid...

But I digress.

Yes, this is interesting. I didn't expect so many of you would think it was okay. I'm with Nicole Kidman. None of these people need the money and I would hate to be that kid and comparing your worth in baby pics. And really, it is a BABY - do we honestly care what it looks like at that stage?

Maybe if they were just incredibly boring in everyday life, like us, no one would care and leave them alone? Has anyone ever seen Jodie Foster's boys?

Pretty creepy. But it is also creepy that tehre is a market for the photos.
